Employees are entitled to paid time off as part of their employment contract, referred to as annual leave. The amount of annual leave, which may or may not include public holidays, is usually spelled out in the employment contract. Most employers require employees to give early notice of their intention to take a vacation; in general, the longer the vacation is planned, the longer the notice period is necessary.
