What is State Tax Withholding? | Meaning & Definition | Akrivia HCM

State tax withholding (STW) is a term used by payroll services to describe the process of calculating state income tax withholdings on a paycheck. STW differs from Federal Tax Withholding in that STW taxes go directly to the state department of revenue instead of being paid out of the employee’s gross income.
