Algorithms are sets of instructions that computers follow to make decisions and solve problems. They decide what we see among the billions of articles, people, and products on the internet; they affect what search engines and social media sites recommend.
Algorithm accountability is a process that helps to make the models better and test if it’s working to improve the business and does not harm the people. The Algorithmic Accountability Act of 2022 was introduced to reduce inequalities in AI systems.
The bill tasks companies that implement artificial intelligence systems to assess the risk of those algorithms, mitigate any negative impacts and submit reports to the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC would oversee enforcement and publish information about the algorithms used by those companies to increase accountability and transparency.
