The Employees’ Provident Fund is a savings plan requiring employees and employers to contribute a certain amount. When you change jobs, you can withdraw your pension funds or transfer them to your new employer by submitting an EPS Scheme Certificate. Under some circumstances, Form 10C is very useful in withdrawing money.

What is Form 10C?

It is a mandatory form that must be filled out and submitted while withdrawing money from the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS). It is four pages long and will require information about your salary and tenure in your organization. You can use your Universal Account Number(UAN) for logging in.

Every month, a certain percentage of your total PF contributions is set aside in your Employee Pension Scheme account, and this fund can be withdrawn using Form 10C.

What are the benefits of Form 10C?

Here are the benefits of Form 10C:

  1. Employees can apply for PF withdrawal after filing Form 10C before retiring.
  2. People who fulfill the first requirement and the second may be entitled to receive a scheme certificate. Those who meet only the second requirement can withdraw a reduced pension after filing Form 10C.
  3. If the member’s retirement is due to a dysfunction, they can also withdraw EPS under disablement pension by filing Form 10D.

Process of filing Form 10C.

You can use online and offline modes to fill up Form 10C. Here are the steps to fill it online:

Step 1: Go to the official portal of EPFO and log in with your UAN and password while it will send one OTP. You have to submit the OTP then it will open the member page.

Step 2: Now, you have to click on online services, which is at the menu bar.

Step 3: Now, you will see four options, but you have to click on the Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C & 10D).

Step 4: The ‘Member Details’ screen will appear with pre-filled information about your name and contact details. For verifying it, you have to enter your bank account number, and click ‘Next.’ Now, click on yes for your consent.

Step 5: In the next screen, select the ‘Proceed for Online Claim’ option.

Step 6: Details such as PAN, mobile number, and UAN will be displayed in the claims section. You can choose to withdraw either only your pension funds or only your provident fund.

Step 7: Complete the claim form with the appropriate information. After this, you will get an OTP on your UIDAI registered mobile number, which you should put in the form.

Step 8: It will be submitted after OTP is entered, and now you can download details or track your processing. The amount will be transferred within seven days.

Documents needed to submit for Form 10C.

For filing a Form 10C, you must submit the following documents:

  1. Photocopy of a canceled or blank cheque.
  2. As a prerequisite for enrolling in the Scheme Certificate, each member must provide a certified copy of the date of birth certificate of all children under eighteen years of age.
  3. If you are applying for your family member’s death, you must provide their death certificate.
  4. If the legal heir is applying, they should submit a succession certificate.
  5. The form must be attached with a revenue stamp of Rs.1.

What are the types of claims using Form 10C?

The following are the types of claims:

  1. Members who leave employment before completing ten years of service can use Form 10C to apply for a withdrawal benefit.
  2. If a member leaves the employment before completing ten years of service and is not eligible for a pension, they must apply in Form 10C to receive a withdrawal benefit.
  3. A member, who has completed ten years of service and is older than 50 years on the date of filing this application, can obtain a scheme certificate.
  4. For those members who have reached the age of 50 years or older but younger than 58 years and do not want to receive a reduced pension, they may use the form to get Scheme Certificate.
  5. A family member could use Form 10C if the person died at the age of 58 years after completing ten years of employment.

Contents of Form 10C.

This document requires you to fill in the first two pages of the form for usual cases and the third page is for the advances you have taken before. The fourth page is for the purpose of management; you do not need to fill it out.

Page 1: It contains details like the name of the applicant, DOB, Address of the employer, Father’s name/Husband’s Name, joining date in the company, PF account number, date and reason for leaving, and applicant’s Address.

Page 2: It contains details like family or nominee’s specifics, remittance’s mode, and signature and date.

Page 3: It contains details like the received amount, detailed information about salary and signature, and date.

Things to remember when filing Form 10C.

While filing the Form 10C, you must remember the following things mentioned below:

  1. Always use CAPITAL LETTERS for names.
  2. Mention the exact DOB.
  3. Don’t overwrite the form.
  4. If applying for a scheme certificate, applicants should fill in Sl No 9 and leave Sl No 11 blank.
  5. You must fill Sl No. 11, but you can leave Sl No. 9 blank.
  6. The applicant must attach a photocopy of the cancelled cheque to ensure the bank account number and IFSC code are visible.
  7. If a member dies, Sl No. 9 should be filled out with the details of their family or nominees, and Sl. Nos. 10 and 11 should be filled out by the legal heir/nominee/family member.
  8. Sl No 12 should be filled if a member has been granted a pension or family pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995.

Procedure of attestation

Members should attest to their EPF (Employee Provident Fund) Form 10C by their employer or both the employers and employees, depending on the circumstances. The following cases are:

  1. Individuals who apply using a form procured from an employment center must have their previous employer attest to the form.
  2. The employer and employee must both attest to a Form 10C if the employee has downloaded it online.
  3. For an establishment’s closure, an authorized official’s attestation is required.
