What is Statutory Leave? | Meaning & Definition | Akrivia HCM

Statutory Leave, otherwise known as sick Leave or Annual Leave, is an entitlement for all employees under the Employment Rights Act 1996. As an employee, you are authorized to take a minimum of 5.6 weeks to leave per year, and you can take the Leave-in one go or any number of blocks of days that add up to 5.6 weeks (either a block of up to 13 weeks or six months). It can take it at any time during the year, but at least two weeks’ notice must be given by your employer (but you do need to provide your employer no less than seven days’ notice in writing). The Statutory Leave cannot be carried over into the following year, and it is unlikely that you will earn any wage while on Statutory Leave.
