Shortlisting is the selection of a few candidates from a large pool of candidates based on some pre-defined criteria. Various shortlisting methods depend upon the nature of vacancies and the volume of applicants. The details of any recruitment activity should ideally be clear to all the stakeholders before initiating such activities. A well-planned recruitment campaign will make sure that all the effort, time, and resources that went into this activity yield a positive outcome – i.e., securing the best person/s for a particular role, avoiding contention with other units, institutions, or organizations, and reducing wastage due to rejections early in the recruitment process.
